When your theatre roof has a leak, who ya' gonna call? Boonslick Chordbusters! (Roofing Division)

June 24, 2001 - When they weren't singing in the Quartet Invitational, members of the Boonslick Chordbusters spent most of this weekend on top of the Missouri Theatre in Columbia, MO, installing a new roof over the stage.

Helping To Preserve A Landmark - The Missouri Theater!

It was a hot sunny Saturday morning on June 23rd when the fellows showed up at the Missouri Theater. Normally one would expect to see the Boonslick Chordbusters performing on the stage, not 60 feet above it on top of the roof! But on the roof is where we found them that day! They were there to give their time, and a bit of their back muscles, to help preserve a wonderful piece of our local history.

The theater is hoping to undergo extensive remodeling and expansion in the near future. However, before any further work could be done the old leaking roof over the stage area had to be repaired. The guys rose to the challenge and arranged for a donation of roofing material as well as a crane to haul it up onto the roof! Then these fellows, who do not ply the roofing trade by nature, took to the hot job of re-roofing the theater. 

The work began Friday afternoon, as the roof was swept off and the necessary materials were lifted into place by the crane, and continued bright and early Saturday morning.  By 2:30 p.m. Saturday, they were ready to break for the day and get ready for the Quartet Invitational that evening. First thing the next morning they were at it again, and they finished the job Sunday afternoon.

The value of the Boonslick Chordbusters' effort has been estimated at nine thousand dollars, money that can now be better spent elsewhere in the theatre refurbishment process. The chorus is proud to be among those helping to restore this valuable piece of local history in the hope that we will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.
